I'll Have What He's Having

My daddy's meal looks better than mine!

She still sticks her tongue out at times...

Her puffs don't always make it quite in her mouth:-)

8 Months Old!

Layla was 8 months old on Wednesday. It's hard to believe that in 4 more months she'll be a year already! Where does the time go?!? She had her Synegis (RSV) shot today and hated it as always. She's starting to hate the doctor's office more and more. She just hates being fussed with. This is how it went. I put her on the scale to get weighed, she cries. I pick her up, she's fine. I put her on the table to get measured, she cries. I pick her up, she's fine. The nurse takes her temp in her armpit and she has tears streaming down her cheeks. The nurse takes the thermometer out and she's fine. She then gets her shots (2 b/c it's in 2 syringes) and of course screams like crazy. Then she had her ears checked because she's had a cold and has been waking up during the night. She really did not enjoy that! It turns out that she does have an ear infection in both ears so I'm glad that we had them checked!

Last month I had put on here that she was 14 1/2 lbs. So when she got weighed yesterday I was confused when she was only 13 lbs 11 oz. Apparently last month I was confused. At 7 months she was 12 lbs 15 oz--not 14 1/2. She was 25.25 inches yesterday. It was funny that she was 13 lbs 11 oz b/c her birth weight was 3 lbs 11.8 oz--so 8 months later she has gained exactly 10 lbs! I used to hear my sister often tell people when we were out that Gavin was two months early and I always thought it was funny how much it came up. But now I find myself doing the same thing with Layla. As anyone with a baby knows, people always ask about babies and how old they are and such. I don't mind people asking at all, but I often do feel like I have to explain why she's small. I can tell when some people have no idea what a typical 8 month old looks like so then I don't feel the need to explain that she was a preemie, but a lot of people do seem surprised when I tell them how old she is. It happened three times at Meijers yesterday. I guess it's good small talk with strangers:-).

She's getting much better at sitting alone, yet is still tippy.

I think this new hat of hers is so cute!

My mommy is funny!!

Sickie

Layla came down with a little cold last week and has been quite miserable today and yesterday:-(. Poor little girl. At least we can be thankful this is the first time she's gotten sick!

These pics were from Friday before our shopping trip when she was feeling better.

I don't WANT to look at the camera!

Learning to Share...or Not

Cousin Gavin came over today and Layla and Elv had fun playing with him.

Layla also had fun practicing her backbends.

Gavin was not happy about sharing toys.

Layla also does not like to share--she wants to have whatever Gavin playing with if it's within reach.

Finally got it!!

Puff Puff Bath

We've been giving Layla a puff every once in awhile and she is starting to like them. Today she figured out how to feed them to herself. I think it helped her hang on to them that they stuck to her hands since her hands were wet with spit.

Sitting in typical Layla style with one foot hanging over. She loves kicking and splashing water with her hands, so I'm not sure how much longer I'll be able to bathe her in the kitchen!

Sweet Potatoe Pipe

This weekend when we were out for dinner Layla was getting fussy so I rumaged through my bag hoping to have a pipe along. No such luck. She stopped liking her pipe a few months ago so I figured she was just growing out of that stage and maybe that was a good thing. But I still liked to have it along while out in public in case she got loud. Well, last night for dinner she was super loud and of course I still hadn't put it in my bag. Luckily her buddy Ella had an extra one and she loved it! Today I gave her one at home that she hadn't used before (you know how you get so much baby stuff you forget about some things that are put away?) and she loved that one too! I don't want her to always need her pipe, but it will definitely be nice to have a plug for her when she's noisy!! :-)

This is random, but the other night I had a dream that one of the girls I work with was wearing this outfit of Layla's. In the dream I was arguing with her over whose outfit it was. Isn't it funny to picture this sweatsuit in an adult size? :-)

This was her reaction to sweet potatoes yesterday. I only gave her a few bites as I didn't want to force her to eat something she didn't like, but she still had so much around her mouth that everytime she'd lick her lips (which she loves doing to hear the smacking noise) she'd make this sour face again. Maybe today she'll like it better! She now loves rice cereal and oatmeal--especially the oatmeal with bananas. In time, hopefully she'll get used to veggies too!

Date Night

Saturday night was a date night for Jonathan and Layla. Poor kids had to have their parents tag along! :-)

Hangin' out...

Jonathan whispering in her ear...

Ready for night-night!

Layla seems to find strange positions in all her seats. She gets stuck in her Bumbo because she pulls her legs up and they get wedged in the leg spots and she's always got her legs hanging off the sides of her bouncy seat. Now tonight she had her head off the side of her swing up against the bar--not sure how she thinks that's comfortable!

Such a big girl! Practicing standing with Daddy...
